This course is designed to investigate learning and teaching theories, principles and approaches from a number of perspectives: psychology philosophy, English education, sociology and linguistics. Students will explore various techniques and learning principles which are applicable to real classrooms.
EdT 520 영어교수법
(ELT Methodology)
This course is designed to introduce the key principles underlying approaches, methods and techniques for learning and teaching foreign languages. In this course, students will examine the application of linguistic and teaching theory to EFL teaching. Students will explore many dimensions in the field of TESOL; a) important issues that affect the decisions made by EFL teachers, b) useful techniques for teaching EFL. Students will watch videos of sample teaching, discuss and, analyze the lessons.

(Testing & Assessment)
This course is designed to explore a practical and principled approach to language testing and assessment in a second/foreign language. The course will address the assessment process, different types of test construction and language assessment and how testing should inform learning. Various issues of language assessment will in discussed to make better instructional decisions about language teaching.

(Computer- assisted Language Learning/CALL)
This course is designed to introduce new technologies and the broader adoption of existing technologies in language learning and teaching. This course explores key concepts, explains terminology and elaborates on ideas that have been important to the development of CALL. This course also shows how ideas about CALL have been integrated into practical curricular design, teaching and learning materials and testing.

This course is designed to provide students with the practical aspects of teaching English as a second/foreign language by exploring English literature theoretically and critically. The course will explore various genres and discuss the ways to inte6grate literature into second/ foreign language teaching. This course will look at both intensive and extensive reading.

(Teaching Young Learners)
This course recognizes that elementary aged learners present with different learning needs than adult learners do. Teachers of all school-aged learners need specific knowledge, skills and attitudes. The course explores the characteristics and development of young learners on a number of levels: physical, emotional, intellectual and how these impact learning. This course will investigate appropriate communicative activities and topics so students can apply the ideas, principles and techniques to the teaching of young learners in their own situations.

(Teaching Vocabulary and Grammar)
This course is designed to present theoretical background in grammar and vocabulary learning and teaching in order for students to apply the methods and approaches to classroom teaching. Students will be acquainted with up-to-date theories in TESOL area, be asked to reflect their own learning experience, and learn to reconcile the theories and their own experience so they can become more effective teaching professionals. The relevance of the application of contemporary corpus-based findings will be presented.

This course is designed to introduce general issues and major disciplines in linguistics. As an introductory course students will gain basic knowledge of linguistics. This course covers key concepts of the components of language: syntax, semantics, morphology, phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, discourse analysis and language acquisition.

(Teaching English using Multimedia)
This course is designed to introduce multimedia tools and internet sources for English language teaching and learning. It is a project-based course in which students can obtain the knowledge and skills regarding how to use multimedia in a variety of instructional settings. Students will investigate and assess various multimedia tools and websites and be trained to design and develop multimedia materials for a second/ foreign language classroom.

This course is designed to present recent theories or research trends relating to teaching speaking and listening. Techniques and strategies for effective speaking and listening will be explored.
EdT540 교실영어 실습
(Classroom English and Management)
This course is designed to provide students with practical classroom management and teaching and to practice delivering instruction successfully in English. The course will be divided in the main areas. The language used will fall into three main frameworks: the use of English to organize the class, ways to increase small talk in the class, and how to use English while giving instructions. Students will learn vocabulary and phrases specific to the class context, and practice using them with appropriate intonation and pronunciation. Topics covered will include but not limited to: (i) vocabulary for classroom activities, such as taking attendance, assigning and collecting homework, getting students' attention, starting and wrapping up lessons (ii) vocabulary about classroom conditions and operating equipment (iii) Classroom management and discipline.

(Drama and Teaching English)
This is a practical course, seeking to marry theory with classroom practice, to provide an academic rationale to the use of drama in the ELT classroom, alongside hands-on experience of some techniques and activities suitable across the primary and secondary age ranges. Students will be given the chance to learn the powerful results of using drama in the classroom.

(Teaching pronunciation)
This course is designed to introduce theoretical and practical approaches of teaching pronunciation. The purpose of teaching pronunciation is to help students to build confidence and proficiency in spoken English. Therefore, conventions of pronunciation (phonemic awareness, intonation, linking, and syllable stresses) will be discussed and various activities related to teaching pronunciation will be investigated.

(Research Methods in ELT)
This course is designed to introduce the concepts and techniques used in research in second/foreign language learning and teaching. This course will enable students to identify and investigate research areas related to the teaching and learning of English as a Foreign Language. Students will read, discuss and, then produce all aspects of a standard research project: defining the research focus, doing a literature review, methodological considerations to data collection and analysis in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. This will lead students to undertake their own self selected specific research.

This course is designed to explore the use of songs and chants by examining the principles and approaches to language teaching and learning for second/foreign learners. This course will discuss the effect of using songs and chants and students will have the opportunity to investigate various techniques and activities while using realia.

(Statistics for language teaching)
This course is designed to introduce the major concepts and tools for conducting quantitative research, and its analysis. Statistical tools for coding, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data using specific statistical techniques will be thoroughly covered in this course.
EdT 547 영어교재 연구 및 지도법
(ELT Materials & Methods)
This course is designed to introduce the theoretical principles and practical implications of developing and using authentic materials in ELT by introducing students to current thinking on materials design, development and adaptation. Students will discuss teachers' and learners' roles in the EFL classroom, analyze and evaluate materials from theoretical frameworks, and create and present a portfolio of original materials.

(Academic Writing)
This course is designed to provide students with the skills to write a variety of academic genres and thesis writing. Academic English writing structures, textual organization, and referencing format (APA) will be explored and discussed. In this class students will read academic literature, and learn the process approach to writing. A variety of self, peer and instructor feedback tools will be used to help students to write papers to an acceptable standard.
EdT 550 영어교육 실습
(Teaching Methodology & Practice)
This course is designed to incorporate teaching principles and techniques while possibly adapting textbooks in specific teaching situations (micro-teaching) and to undertake self evaluation of teaching by analyzing teaching principles, techniques and activities. The course will use the following topics and activities: creating lesson plans using classroom English, presenting multiple teaching demonstrations, and peer observation and feedback.

(English Composition)
This course is designed to explore principles, techniques and activities to enhance students writing ability. The course will cover a range of activities from brainstorming and outlines, to drafting and editing in addition to paraphrasing and summarizing, analysing the text with the focus on the author's purpose, cohesion and coherence, registers and styles. It will also deal with the techniques in self-correction and peer correction.

(Story Telling)
This course is designed to explore the use of stories and themes by examining the principles and approaches to language teaching and learning for young learners. This course will discuss the dynamic interplay among possible tasks, activities, and materials and children's desire to find and construct coherence and meaning. Student will investigate the importance of stories in the daily lives of children and in English classes, and have an opportunity to develop thematic teaching around stories in their own place of instruction.

This course is designed to explore key issues and practices within language curriculum development. A variety of curriculum frameworks will be analyzed and evaluated and then applied to communicative framework. The use of a variety of planning and implementation processes involved in developing or renewing a language program will be discussed and employed.

This course is designed to explore a comprehensive and contemporary selection of important contributions to the field of bilingual education. The roles and relationships among theory, research, policy and practice will be presented and discussed. Varieties of bilingual education models including immersion models and content-based instruction for second and foreign language teaching will be examined and analyzed.

This course is designed to develop language proficiency and communicative skills. The course will cover many dimension of conversation including conversation features, such as small talk, openings and closings, register, conversational routines and strategies for solving communication breakdown and comprehension problems. It will also deal with common colloquialisms and vocabulary related to diverse conversation topics chosen by either the class or instructor.

Issues affecting developing multimedia materials for the EFL teacher, creating and applying multimedia materials and devices in the classroom will be highlighted.

(Semantics/Pragmatics)
This course is designed to introduce theoretical aspects of semantics and pragmatics. Semantics covers aspects of language that relates to understanding the meanings of words, phrases, and sentences. Pragmatics covers aspects of language use in social context. By enhancing students' knowledge and skills regarding semantics and pragmatics, they can enrich not only their language but their teaching skills as well. Special emphasis will be placed on various forms of verbal and nonverbal communication, with regard to English- speaking cultures. These concepts can then be applied to classroom settings, a key topic will be the role of culture in understanding authentic texts.

This course is designed to introduce the idea that sociolinguistics is concerned with describing language use as a social phenomena. The basic principles and theoretical issues of sociolinguistics will be presented and attempts made to establish causal links to language variation. Students will examine different varieties and features of language, and the social, linguistic and contextual characteristics.

This course is designed to introduce theoretical aspects of the English language relating to its syntactic structure. The course addresses the structure of sentences and their structural and functional relationships to one another. Students will examine how the rules governing the formation of sentences constitute the syntax of a language. Practical considerations for the classroom will be offered.

This course is designed to introduce approaches and methods of discourse analysis. Student will explore concepts around meaning-making including sociolinguistics, conversation analysis, and critical pedagogy in discourse.

This introductory course is designed to introduce learning theories and frameworks covering concepts of first and second language acquisition. This course will dispel common myths about language learning, introduce theories about how babies acquire their first languages, introduce theories about how children and adults learn a second or foreign language, introduce concepts relating to learner variables, and examine features of learner language.

This course is designed to introduce natural language processing. It will explore theories, models and concepts which mainly explain the mental processes of producing and comprehending language. Speech perception, auditory and word recognition, word production, lexical ambiguity, sentence production and comprehension, the role of memory in language processing and neurolinguistics will be explored.

(Phonology)
This course is designed to introduce the systematic structuring of sounds in language. Theory, concept and rules related to the following issues will be covered: phonetic distinctions that make signals differences in meaning, the relationship between how sounds are produced and how they are stored in the mind and the ways sound are organized within words. Practical considerations for the classroom will be offered.
